5th August 1956: Sam leaps into ‘Doc’ Daniel Young, a mild-mannered veterinarian working on a ranch in rural Texas. Sam’s task appears to be nursing a sick piglet back to health, but it could also be to win the love of Tess, the headstrong daughter of rancher Chance McGill, or be connected with his young guitar-playing friend, Buddy. Chance wants Tess to marry so that his ranch will be passed on through the family; however, Tess objects to matrimony, and states that she will only wed the man who can beat her in a cowboy contest. When Tess chooses Doc to be her challenger, Sam must prove himself the better cowboy – even if it means clashing with rival suitors and an unridable horse…
